What Is This Tool?

What Is FAQ Schema?

FAQ schema (FAQPage on Schema.org) is structured data that tells search engines your page contains questions and answers. When Google validates it, it may show an expandable accordion of Q&A pairs beneath your search result, taking up significantly more SERP real estate than a standard listing.

The same markup is read by AI Overviews, Perplexity, and other AI engines when they generate answers and need sources. This tool generates the exact <script type="application/ld+json"> block you need. Copy it and paste into your page <head>.

  • Include 2-10 question/answer pairs per page
  • Answers must be visible on the page. Google rejects hidden schema
  • Questions should be things real users ask, not marketing slogans
  • Validate with Google's Rich Results Test at search.google.com/test/rich-results

FAQ Schema: Practical Notes

FAQ rich results vs. featured snippets

A featured snippet is chosen by Google's algorithm and shows a single answer above organic results. FAQ rich results are earned by adding schema markup and appear as expandable dropdowns under your listing. You can have both on the same page at the same time.

Writing answers AI engines actually cite

AI Overviews and Perplexity prefer short, direct answers. Lead with the answer, not the context. Keep answers under 60 words where possible. Include a specific number, date, or entity name. Answers written like "X is Y. It works by Z." get cited far more often than answers that build up to the point.

What gets FAQ rich results removed

Google will demote or remove FAQ rich results if the questions are marketing copy ("Why is our product the best?"), the answers are not visible on the page, or the same FAQs are copied across multiple pages. Add only genuine questions with honest answers.

FAQs

FAQ Schema FAQs

Is FAQ schema still worth using in 2026?
Yes. Google restricted FAQ rich results for some categories in 2023, but the schema still feeds AI Overviews, Perplexity, and other AI engines for citations, which is increasingly valuable.
How many questions should I include?
2-10 is the recommended range. Only include questions your audience actually asks, and make sure all answers are visible on the page.
Do I need a plugin to add this to WordPress?
No. Paste the generated JSON-LD directly into a custom HTML block or your theme header. The Minineo theme adds FAQ schema automatically via minineo_schema_faq().
What is the difference between FAQPage and QAPage schema?
FAQPage is for pages where the site owner provides the answers. QAPage is for community sites like Stack Overflow where multiple users answer. Use FAQPage for blog posts and landing pages.
