Reading time is total word count divided by reading speed in words per minute. The average adult reads digital content at around 238 WPM. Showing this estimate on blog posts helps readers decide whether to read now, bookmark it, or skip. It sets expectations honestly.
For content planning, reading time is a quick proxy for content length. A 7-minute read is roughly 1,600 words. A 20-minute read is around 4,700. Use this tool to size articles before you write or check finished drafts before publishing.
